Product & Ingredients
Below are some common questions about our all our Products and Ingredients
Diapers & Pull-Ups
We have carefully chosen the materials to be as eco-friendly and non-toxic as possible. The top sheet touching your baby have bio-based materials (diapers only), while the totally chlorine free core (TCF) is made from super absorbent polymers and FSC® Mix (C145475) certified wood pulp – sourced from responsibly managed forests.
Note – our pull-ups currently do not have the bio-based topsheet, but we are actively working on introducing that soon once our supplier finishes real world testing!
Our diapers are partially biodegradable, with the topsheet that touches baby containing bio materials. We had to balance price and performance vs environmental considerations when deciding on materials.
Sustainability features have also been built in, such as FSC certified wood fluff and bags made from partially recycled plastic. Our pull-ups do not yet have the bio-based topsheet but we are working on including this in the future once sufficient testing has been done to measure real world performance.
Our diapers & pull-ups are made in Denmark by a manufacturer at the cutting edge of diaper technology. We literally scoured the globe in the hunt for the best supplier.
Every baby is unique in the shape and size of their thighs, waist and buttocks. Our guided weight ranges are for the so called 'average baby', if one even exists! Check how the diaper or pull-up is fitting on your baby. If there are red marks around your baby's tummy or thighs, or if the diaper or pull-up feels a little too snug, it might be time to move up a size. If you're getting blowouts or persistent leaks, that can be another sign that it's time to move up.
Sometimes the problem can be that the diaper or pull-up is too big. If there are gaps around the legs and tummy, or the diaper is sitting too high at the front or back, you may need to try a smaller size. As baby moves up a size, the diapers and pull-ups will have more SAP (super absorbent polymer) and wood fluff in the core, boosting absorbency for the bigger volumes needed as they get older.
This is the best part of having babies…let’s do this! We recommend you follow the steps below:
1. Choose a safe, flat and secure surface to change your baby and lie them on their back.
2. Open out the diaper and slide your fingers down the side to lift up the leak guards.
3. Lift your baby’s legs up and place underneath so they are lying on it & ensure tabs are at the back.
4. Peel back the grip tabs and secure on the front panel.
5. Reposition the grip tabs to adjust the fit of your baby’s diaper so they are comfortable. Double-check that the diaper does not feel too loose or too tight.
6. When disposing of diaper, please place in the trash. Do not recycle or flush down toilet.
Yes, our diapers are designed to be unisex and your baby’s weight will be the best guide to selecting a size. With each baby having somewhat of a unique shape, if there is any doubt about which size is suitable (the weight may suit more than one size), then we recommend our trial offer.
We are very proud to be featuring this logo, which means at least 70% of the wood fluff in our diaper core comes from responsibly managed forests that are independently certified to FSC standards. The remainder comes from controlled wood sources. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) ensures the harvest of timber products maintains the forest’s biodiversity, productivity, and ecological processes. It means that forest operations are structured and managed to be sufficiently profitable, without generating financial profit at the expense of the forest resource, the ecosystem, or affected communities. By providing strong incentives to sustain forest resources with long-term management plans, it means both locals and society at large can enjoy long term benefits. Together, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Joonya are providing a product that delivers a brighter future for the next generation. For more information about the FSC, take a look here – https://au.fsc.org/en-au
The “Original DERMATEST®” seal confirms that our diapers & pull-ups do not cause skin irritation or hypersensitivity to the skin after dermatological testing. Products certified with this seal keep the promise of tested and confirmed quality. The test procedure involved a small sample of the top sheet, ears and tabs being applied to the skin of 30 panelists via an occlusive patch at a suitable concentration. In this test panel there were people with very dry, oily, normal and sensitive skin. The skin is checked at 24, 48 and 72 hour intervals. A positive reaction provides evidence of primary irritation to the substances. In conclusion, all 30 panelists experienced ‘no reaction’ to the test sample. All Joonya products are vegan and free of any testing on animals. Joonya is proud to be certified by PETA (peta.org).
The thin stripes you see are channels and are definitely not a product fault! In fact these channels are designed to whisk moisture away from baby's skin, giving him or her a longer sleep! Channel technology is becoming the new standard now for advanced diapers & pull-ups.
Our diapers and pullups don't have a wetness indicator as they are ultra thin and easy to tell when it needs to be changed. We opted to not use one as they usually contain questionable chemicals. We have had no complaints!
If your baby is on the cusp of two different sizes, we recommend going for the bigger size. In the case where you still get leaks, it would likely be a short wait of a few weeks until your baby starts to fit the higher size. You could then order a single bag to tie you over from our trial page on our website.
If you find that leaks are persistent then we are happy to refund any unopened bags you still have (there are 6 inside each bulk carton). We will send you a discounted shipping label which would be deducted from the pro-rata refund processed upon receiving back the unopened bags to our nearest warehouse location. Contact support@joonya.com to arrange.
Yes, our skin-friendly diapers & pull-ups are designed especially to protect sensitive skin and reduce the risk of allergies and rash. The super absorbent core uses the latest innovative channel technology to whisk moisture away from skin keep your child dry for longer.
We believe you deserve full transparency regarding the ingredients that come in contact with your child’s skin. Independent chemical testing is performed by Eurofins laboratory. The results are published on our website.
The prestigious German Dermatest Seal confirms our diapers & pull-ups have passed rigorous patch testing on sensitive skin. No rash or allergic reaction was evident in the sample group.
Allergy Certified confirms all our materials have been carefully examined by a toxicologist for allergens, impurities, carcinogens & endocrine disrupting chemicals. We successfully passed the allergy risk assessment.
Absolutely! The trial "bundle" can be ordered once (which adds a free pack of wipes), and for any extra bags in different sizes you can just order them individually from lower down on the same trial page.
Wipes
We use viscose material (FSC® MIX certified) which is derived from cellulose fibers and is therefore safe for the environment by being 100% biodegradable and compostable in proper soil conditions.
Our wipes each measure 18 x 20 cm on average (plus or minus 10%).
We have carefully chosen the ingredients in our wipes to deliver the most effective, non-toxic solution available. We challenge anyone to show us a better option – seriously, we would like to know! The Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep cosmetics database shows our ingredients to be extremely safe – check out www.ewg.org/skindeep.
Silver Dihydrogen Citrate (SDC) is a new and extremely effective bacteria-fighting preservative – used by only the most advanced product designers. A preservative is essential to use in any moist environment that can be a breeding ground for germs. SDC is absolutely safe for your baby – other brands often use questionable preservatives to guarantee the shelf life. We encourage you to do your own research, but a good place to start is the EWG Skin Deep cosmetic ingredients database at www.ewg.org/skindeep – SDC is given the best possible rating on this site. Furthermore, the World Health Organization (WHO) has assessed the safety of using silver compounds to sanitize drinking water – their results found no toxic effects from exposure. The EU’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Products performed a scientific review and also found SDC to be non-toxic and non-irritating from either oral or dermal exposure.
We asked our supplier this very question before we made the decision to use SDC. The response from the manufacturer of SDC they use was as below:
SDC is an aqueous liquid comprised of ionic silver and citric acid in water. SDC does not contain nanoscale particles or any silver with a dimension between 1 and 100 nanometers, nor is SDC considered nanotechnology. SDC does not contain particles; SDC contains silver ions, stabilized as silver dihydrogen citrate, therefore, evaluation of particle size is not relevant. The radius of the silver atom, since it is an atom, is approximately 1.65 angstrom. Silver ions stabilized as silver dihydrogen citrate obviously also are in the same range. This is the same as naturally occurs for silver ions and is not intentionally manufactured to be nanoscale. Neither SDC, nor SILVÉRION 2400, meet the definition of a nanomaterial as set forth by the European Cosmetics Regulation, which defines a nanomaterial as, “an insoluble or biopersistant and intentionally manufactured material with one or more external dimensions, or an internal structure, on the scale from 1 to 100 nm”.
Our manufacturer suggests a shelf life of 3 years from date of manufacture, offering plenty of time.
Our wipes are made by an advanced manufacturer in China with extensive experience supplying the most demanding customers globally.
City water goes through an intense multi-step process of purification, including Ultraviolet (UV) Irradiation, Reverse Osmosis and Electro Deionization. These methods neutralize adverse chemicals, heavy metals, chlorine and other pollutants, while killing bacteria and other microorganisms – making the water 100% safe for our use.
All Joonya products are vegan and free of any testing on animals. Joonya is proud to be certified by PETA (peta.org).
Do not flush Joonya wipes, even if they are compostable. They should only be disposed of through home composting or general waste (in a hygienic manner).
Yes, our packaging is 100% recyclable plastic as we are yet to find a non-plastic solution that is suitable for a cosmetic product such as baby wipes. The soft plastic part of our packaging is made from a combination of polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) and due to its softness not many waste recycling programs accept it, though it is worth checking with your local council as there are special facilities sometimes available for soft plastics. The lid on our wipes is made from hard PP and can be put in the regular plastic recycling bin.
The DERMATEST® seal confirms that our wipes do not cause skin irritation or hypersensitivity to the skin after dermatological testing. Products certified with this seal keep the promise of tested and confirmed quality. The test procedure involved the wipes being applied to the skin of 30 panelists via an occlusive patch. In this test panel there were people with very dry, oily, normal and sensitive skin. The skin is checked at 24, 48 and 72 hour intervals. In conclusion, all 30 panelists experienced ‘no reaction’ to the test sample. For more information on Dermatest check out www.dermatest.de
Cleaning hands and wiping mess off your baby’s face is fine to do with our wipes. If you want to be super cautious beforehand you could try wiping a small part of baby’s face and wait a few minutes to see if there is any reaction. A very small minority of babies frequently have reactions to new chemicals, even safe ones like in our wipes.
We use a high quality international supplier of raw ingredients to supply our citric acid anhydrous. It is derived from corn and is GMO free.
