What to do about leaks!

Let’s face it – we’ve all experienced leaks and they can be a nightmare for any sleep deprived parent, no matter how patient we are! Extra washing, an upset baby and cleaning up the mess can all contribute to stress we just don’t need.

If the diaper is leaking, we find that it’s usually because your baby is in the wrong size. Unexpected growth spurts are usually the culprit!

Below is a list of common questions we receive on this topic, along with our typical responses…

My baby is in the middle of the guided weight range for this size, so why am I getting leaks?

Every baby is unique in the shape and size of their thighs, waist and buttocks. Our guided weight ranges are for the so called ‘average baby’, if one even exists! Check how the diaper is fitting on your baby. If there are red marks around your baby’s tummy or thighs, or if it feels a little too snug, it might be time to move up a size. If you’re getting blowouts or persistent leaks, that can be another sign that it’s time to move up.

Sometimes the problem can be that the diaper is too big. If there are gaps around the legs and tummy, or its sitting too high at the front or back, you may need to try a smaller size. As baby moves up a size, the diaper will have more SAP (super absorbent polymer) and wood fluff in the core, boosting absorbency for the bigger volumes needed as they get older.

If baby is feeding more than usual during the night, then the ensuing extra volume of pee can make leaks more likely. Some babies also just pee more than others!

We make it easy for you to try different sizes with our trial packs. You can try a couple of sizes to check the fit before you commit to buying a full carton with 6 bags.

I can see thin stripes when I hold up your diaper to the light – is this a product fault contributing to leaks?

The thin stripes you see are channels and are definitely not a product fault! In fact these channels are designed to whisk moisture away from baby’s skin, giving him or her a longer sleep! Channel technology is becoming the new standard now for advanced diapers.

My baby is on the cusp of two sizes – which one should I go for to prevent leaks?

If your baby is on the cusp of two different sizes, we recommend going for the bigger size. In the case where you still get leaks, it would likely be a short wait of a few weeks until your baby starts to fit the higher size. You could then order a single bag to tie you over from our trial page on our website.

Can I trial more than one size if I’m not sure what size is right?

Absolutely! The trial “bundle” can be ordered once (which adds a free pack of wipes), and for any extra bags in different sizes you can just order them individually from lower down on the same trial page.

Can I return diapers if I find they start leaking? What is your return policy for this?

If you find that leaks are persistent then we are happy to refund any unopened bags you still have (there are 6 inside each bulk carton). We will send you a discounted shipping label which would be deducted from the pro-rata refund processed upon receiving back the unopened bags to our nearest warehouse location. Contact support@joonya.com to arrange with our friendly customer service staff.

How do I apply a diaper to minimize the chances of leaks?

- Make sure the leg cuffs (frilly seam around the legs) are pulled out and not tucked in

- Ensure the velcro tabs are bought across tummy firmly before sticking to seal.

- If you have a boy then make sure his private parts are facing downwards – this will prevent it pointing up at the gap between his tummy and the diaper.

We hope the above was useful and we’re always here to help with any other questions you have!
